Retired Senior Schools Inspector and Governor of Gaelscoil an Chaistil
I was brought up in Armagh and experienced a language-rich education. I went on to study French and taught for many years across a wide range of schools. I then joined a Local Education Authority, supporting primary schools in a variety of ways. This involved organizing training for Principals and teachers, as well as working with parents and Governors. I then became a Senior Inspector with a particular emphasis on Assessment promoting maximum progress for all children. This involved working nationally in lots of different contexts and advising Government bodies.
Retirement brought me to Ballycastle. I was delighted to become a Governor at Gaelscoil an Chaistil where children are at the centre of everything that happens. The school has a welcoming and caring atmosphere and there are excellent working relationships at all levels. I have worked with the principal, Brídín, and her staff on training days and have seen the huge commitment made by all to promote learning. As a result the children achieve well. The children's learning experiences are enhanced through participation in competitions, Gaelic, musical and sporting events, in which they regularly achieve success. The Governors are fully involved in the strategic planning and effectively support Brídín and her staff in the implementation of the School Development Plan.
"It is a great pleasure to be a governor of Gaelscoil an Chaistil, a school that always seeks to achieve at the highest level"
