Stair na Scoile / Our school's history
Le linn 2000 tháinig buíon beag duine le chéile agus bhunaigh grúpa pobail darbh ainm Pobal an Chaistil. Is iad na haidhmeanna a bhí acu ná an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn sa cheantar agus pobal labhartha Gaeilge a chruthú. Ba mhaith leo Gaeloideachas dá bpáistí. Shocraigh siad na haidhmeanna seo a chomhlíonadh tríd gaelscoil agus seirbhísí eile teaghlaigh a bhunú.
Thosaigh an scoil i seomra thuas staighre ó sheanbhanc agus bhí seisear dalta i Rang 1 agus 2 le múinteoir amháin agus cúntóir amháin. Ba í Pádraigín Mhic Amhlaoibh an chéad mhúinteoir a bhí againn agus ba í Órlaith Mhic Giolla Adhamhnáin an chéad chúntóir. Tá Pádraigín agus Órlaith go fóill fostaithe ag an scoil 15 bliain níos moille.
D’eagraigh an grúpa léas ar acra talaimh ar imeall an bhaile agus d'aistrigh an scoil ansin le linn 2001. Bhí naíscoil, gaelscoil agus grúpa tachrán acu.
I 2003 fuair an scoil aitheantas ón rialtas mar bhí beirt déag páiste ag teacht go Rang 1. Roimhe sin, bhailigh tuismitheoirí an t-airgead uilig chun íoc as na múinteoirí, as an talamh féin, as na botháin agus as leabhair agus trealamh scoile.
I 2009 fuair an scoil aitheantas caipítleach. Cheannaigh an Roinn Oideachais an suíomh agus de réir a chéile fuarthas réidh do na seanbhotháin agus cuireadh botháin úra ar an suíomh.
Bronnadh stadas reachtúil ar an naíscoil i 2012 agus tá muid in ann 26 áit naíscoile a ofráil. Cuidíonn sé sin le líon na bpáistí mar go hiondúil aistríonn páistí ó naíscoil go Rang 1.
Anois i 2017 tá 15 duine fostaithe ag an scoil - seisear múinteoir, seisear cúntóir, comhordaitheoir riachtanais speisialta, rúnaí agus glantóir agus tá 110 páiste ag an scoil. Tá naíscoil reachtúil againn le dhá sheomra ranga agus tá ceithre sheomra ranga, halla, seomra foirne agus oifigí ag an ghaelscoil.
------------------------------
During 2000, a small group of people came together and founded a group called Pobal an Chaistil. Their aims were to promote Gaelic within the area and to build a Gaelic speaking community. They wanted Gaelic medium education for their children. They decided to fulfil these aims by establishing a gaelscoil and other family centred services.
The school began its life in a room upstairs in an old bank building. There were six pupils in Rang 1 and 2 and they had one teacher and one assistant. Pádraigín Mhic Amhlaoibh was our first teacher and Órlaith Mhic Giolla Adhamhnáin our first assistant. Fifteen years later, both Pádraigín and Órlaith still work at the school.
The group then got a lease on an acre of ground at the edge of town and the school moved there during 2001. The group had a naíscoil (nursery), gaelscoil (primary) and a grúpa tachrán (toddler group).
In 2003 the school received recognition from the government as they had twelve children enrolled in Rang 1. Before that, the parents of the school had raised all the monies required to pay the teachers’ wages, to pay for the ground and classroom mobiles; and to pay for books and school equipment.
In 2009 the school received capital funding. The Department of Education bought the site and gradually removed the old mobiles, replacing them with newer mobiles and one modular building.
The school was granted statutory nursery status in 2012 and we are now able to offer 26 full time nursery places. This helps with enrolment figures as the majority of children transfer from nursery to Rang 1.
Now in 2017 there are 15 people employed at the school – six teachers, six assistants, a special needs co-ordinator, a secretary and a cleaner. There are 110 children attending the school, from nursery to Rang 7. The school has a statutory nursery that has two classrooms and the gaelscoil has four classrooms, a hall, a staff room and offices.
